MANILA – Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte hosted on Wednesday Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister Peter O’Neill for a series of meetings and an official dinner.
Duterte held bilateral meetings with O’Neill, before both leaders attended a state banquet dinner at the Malacañang presidential palace.
O’Neill arrived in the Philippines capital on Tuesday afternoon for a three-day visit, according to the official Philippine News Agency.
Prior to the meetings with Duterte on Wednesday, O’Neill and his Filipino host reviewed honor guards as part of an official welcome ceremony, an epa-efe journalist reported.
The Papuan leader was joined on the trip by his Minister of Finance, James Marape and Christopher Hawkins, CEO of the Papua New Guinea Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Authority.
Wednesday’s meeting was Duterte’s and O’Neill’s first since they met on the sidelines of last year’s APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Vietnam.
O’Neill will head to Japan at the conclusion of his visit to the Philippines.
