WASHINGTON – The nine people onboard the Puerto Rico National Guard aircraft that crashed on Wednesday in Georgia, United States, died in the tragedy, said Puerto Rico National Guard Brigadier General Isabelo Rivera.
“Nine crew members died in the accident, but until their families and relatives are notified, we cannot give their names,” Rivera said.
The plane, a Hercules C-130, crashed at 11:30 am north of Savannah in Georgia shortly after takeoff.
The aircraft was flying to Arizona for retirement after more than 60 years of service.
There had been some confusion about the number of the victims, since it was initially reported that five crew members were onboard the aircraft. Hours later, the National Guard confirmed there were four others, taking the total to nine.
