KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. – American Coco Vandeweghe and Australia’s Ashleigh Barty won on Sunday the women’s doubles final at the Miami Open, downing the Czech Republic’s Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova. In a match that wrapped up in just 62 minutes, Vandeweghe and Barty crushed the Czechs 6-2 and 6-1 in the last match of the tourney on Key Biscayne, the very last time it will be held at Crandon Park before moving to the Hard Rock Stadium in north Miami for future editions. The Czechs had been seeded sixth in the series, but the winning duo managed to get 64 percent of their first serves in play versus just 41 percent for their rivals. With Vandeweghe on the winning doubles side, the Florida tournament featured an American sweep this year, with Sloane Stephens winning the women’s singles final on Saturday, brothers Bob and Mike Bryan taking the men’s doubles and John Isner downing Germany’s Alexander Zverev earlier on Sunday in the men’s singles final. |
