FIFA Lifts Ban on Kuwait Football Association

CAIRO – FIFA’s president Gianni Infantino announced on Wednesday the decision to lift the ban on Kuwait’s Football Association, in place since Oct. 2015.

Infantino made the announcement during a visit to Kuwait, where he was received by Khaled al-Roudan, the Kuwaiti minister of trade and industry and acting minister of youth affairs.

“The suspension on Kuwait Football Association is lifted,” Infantino said in a video posted on social media by al-Roudan.

On Sunday, the Kuwaiti parliament decided to amend the country’s sports law, the reason behind the ban, and adopt legislative changes proposed by FIFA, according to Kuwait’s state-run news agency KUNA.

Interference by the Kuwaiti government in the country’s football association also led the International Olympic Committee in 2015 to prohibit Kuwait from participating in all international sports competitions.
