Spanish Police Officer Killed by Potential Murder Investigation Suspect

VALENCIA, Spain A police officer investigating the recent discovery of a bag containing human remains was stabbed to death by a potential suspect in the coastal Spanish city of Valencia, security sources told EFE on Tuesday.

At around 2:00 pm, officers assigned to the homicide task force investigating the gruesome discovery entered a property in Valencia city center to question a possible male suspect.

Once inside the premises, the squad attempted to identify said individual who, in turn, grabbed a knife and attacked one of the officers.

Despite resuscitation attempts by emergency medical responders, the 51-year-old officer died of his wounds.

The assailant was fatally shot by other police agents at the scene.

Spanish Police were unable to confirm whether or not the assailant was a suspect in the ongoing homicide investigation.

The crime scene has been cordoned off.

Messages of condolence have already been posted on Spanish social media.
