Bus Crash in Central China Kills 36 People, Injures 13

BEIJING – A total of 36 people were killed and 13 wounded when the bus in which they were traveling crashed into the wall of a tunnel in central China, Xinhua news agency reported on Friday.

The accident occurred at 11:34 pm Thursday (1534 GMT) in the Qinling Tunnel on the Xi’an-Hanzhong highway, in Shaanxi province, local authorities said on Friday.

The bus was traveling from Chengdu, capital of neighboring Sichuan province, to Luoyang city, in Henan province, which is located about 1,000 kilometers northeast of the place of departure.

Rescue teams are still working at the scene, while the wounded are being treated at a nearby hospital.
