BERLIN – German soccer club Borussia Dortmund said on Thursday it turned down an offer from FC Barcelona for French forward Ousmane Dembele.
Dembele’s absence from practice earlier Thursday had sparked fresh speculation about his future with the Bundesliga club.
“Barcelona has presented an offer that does not match the extraordinary footballing and otherwise status of the player and also not the current market situation. BVB have turned this offer down,” Dortmund said in a statement.
“And as there is no other offer from Barcelona, a transfer should not be expected and is at this moment in time unlikely,” the club added.
French sports daily L’Equipe highlighted Dembele’s absence from Thursday morning’s workout, insisting that the player was just hours away from joining Barça.
German sports magazine Kicker had reported that Dortmund wanted 120 million euros ($141.06 million) for the 20-year-old Dembele.
