At Least 5 Dead, 50 Missing after 180 Migrants Forced off Boat near Yemen

SANA’A – At least five people died and other 50 were reported missing after around 180 migrants were forced to jump into the sea off the coast of Yemen, reported the International Organization for Migration on Thursday.

The director of the IOM’s Aden office, Lina Koussa, told EFE that around 100 people survived, including 25 people who were receiving medical care.

“180+ migrants forced from boat today, a day after 50 Somalis and Ethiopians were drowned by smugglers off Yemen,” said the IOM on Twitter.

The incident occurred in the coastal province of Shabwah, located in Gulf of Aden, near the area where 120 Somali and Ethiopian migrants were forced to leap into the sea on Wednesday, leaving at least 50 dead.
