SANTIAGO – Two air force officers were killed Wednesday when their plane crashed during a training flight in northern Chile, the military said.
The plane, a Chilean-made T-35 Pillan, went down at 8:30 am in the Pampa del Tamarugal, a desert area of the Tarapaca region.
Capt. Daniel Moller Campos and 2nd Lt. Cristobal Carvajal Lara died in the accident, which is under investigation, the air force said in a statement.
The T-35 is a turboprop aircraft used to train combat pilots.
The plane was assigned to the Capitan Manuel Avalos Prado Flight School, the air force said.
“The Air Force of Chile is with the families and loved ones of our comrades in this moment of sorrow,” the statement added.
