ROME – Croatian tennis player Marin Cilic, world No. 8, won on Thursday against Belgian David Goffin, world No. 10, to make his way to the Rome Masters quarterfinals.
Cilic, who won the Istanbul tournament two weeks ago, achieved a 6-3, 6-4 win in one hour and 25 minutes.
The 28-year-old Croatian has previously had a negative streak against Goffin, losing three of their four earlier clashes.
Cilic returns to the quarterfinals of the Italian tournament after six years absence, and will meet the winner of the match between Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka, world No. 3, and American John Isner.
