ROME – German tennis player Alexander Zverev advanced on Thursday to the quarterfinals of the Rome Masters after winning 6-3, 6-3 over Italian Fabio Fognini, who knocked out current world No. 1 Andy Murray from the tournament.
Zverev defeated Fognini, world No. 29, in an hour and 18 minutes.
The 20-year-old German, who won his third title two weeks ago in Munich, reached the second round in his Rome Masters debut last year.
The 16th seed is set to meet the winner of the match between Czech Tomas Berdych and Canadian Milos Raonic.
