Viña del Mar Festival Queen Takes Traditional Plunge

VIÑA DEL MAR, Chile – Chilean model Kika Silva, selected by journalists as the 2017 Viña del Mar Festival queen, took the traditional plunge into a swimming pool on Sunday wearing an Indian skirt over a black bikini.

Silva’s plunge at the Hotel O’Higgins pool occurred a day later than planned because squatters from a hillside Viña del Mar area staged a protest on Saturday outside the property.

The protesters, who were demanding better sanitary conditions at the shantytown, were cleared from the exterior of the Hotel O’Higgins by police.

Silva, a model and television personality, appeared poolside 20 minutes late and performed a Polynesian dance with three male dancers.

The Channel 13 personality then executed a dive as more than 200 photographers and cameramen watched.

Silva thanked all the media outlets that covered the “plunge” for their “effort and dedication.”

Kika Silva succeeds Nicole “Luli” Moreno as Viña del Mar Festival queen.
