AUCKLAND, New Zealand – Spanish David Ferrer was eliminated in the second round of the ASB Classic in Auckland in New Zealand against Dutchman Robin Haase, while Spain’s Feliciano Lopez had to retire due to problems with his back.
Hasse was able to defeat Ferrer 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (4) in two hours in their first match against each other.
Lopez retired due to back problems just before his encounter with Frenchman Jeremy Chardy, world No. 71, who passed to the next round.
“Sorry I wasn’t able to go on court today. Woke up with a problem in my back that I hope will get better so I can compete in Melbourne,” he said on Twitter.
