BARCELONA – FC Barcelona coach Luis Enrique described his position on refereeing as flawless and said that complaining about referee errors is the easiest thing.
But at the same time, the Barcelona coach did not criticize Gerard Pique for his comments about referees, and insisted that it was Pique’s opinion.
“He’s an adult and he knows what he has to say, or what he should say, and nothing else. I’m happy with Pique the player; Pique the professional. He’s a key player for us. Everyone has their own way of expressing themselves.”
The Barça coach remarks came in a press conference on the eve of the second leg of the Copa del Rey last 16 against Athletic Bilbao.
On Wednesday’s clash, he insisted that Bilbao will come to Camp Nou to defend its 2-1 victory in the first leg match, but this will not change Barça’s style of play.
“We’re going into the game a goal down, but the fact that we scored in the first leg has given us the confidence we need to get through the tie. Tomorrow there will be an important home advantage and I hope for a full Camp Nou,” he said.
“Football is a sport in which a team that generates very little in the way of chances can end up winning the game. But that doesn’t mean that we won’t be trying to improve on our first leg performance,” he added.
