Berlin Threatens to Cut Aid to Countries Not Accepting Deportees

BERLIN The German foreign and justice ministers agreed to a new set of anti-terror measures that include cutting aid to countries that do not take back deportees.

Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere and Justice Minister Heiko Maas spoke to the press after meeting to study the legal reforms Germany is to embark on after the Berlin truck attack in December.

The assailant, who drove a truck into a crowded Christmas market killing 12 people, was to be deported to Tunisia but could not be sent away due to a lack of paperwork.

The measures agreed to by the ministers also include making people considered dangerous wear ankle monitors and establishing preventative prison sentences while awaiting deportations.
