BUENOS AIRES – Area residents assisted firefighters and police on Friday in putting out a massive fire at a factory outside the Argentine capital, authorities told EFE.
The Simmons mattress company manufacturing facility is located near the city hall of the Buenos Aires suburb of Avellaneda.
Smoke from the “generalized fire” was visible across much of the capital.
There were no reports of deaths or injuries.
Nearly a dozen fire-rescue and police units were dispatched to the scene, authorities told EFE.
Factory employees managed to get out in time, while some nearby homes were evacuated as the flames spread, state news agency Telam said.
Utilities cut electricity and gas service to the affected area and police diverted traffic away from the scene.
