LONDON – A British great-grandfather died at the same time and date in which he was born 103 years ago, according to British newspaper Daily Mirror.
Jimmy Newell, a World War II computer pioneer, was born in the city of Leeds, north England, at midday on Oct. 11, 1913 and died with the ringing of bells at noon after more than a century.
Jimmy’s son Graham Newell was quoted by the British newspaper as saying that his father “certainly died holding my hand at exactly midday on his birthday.”
“He really wanted to be 103. He had amazing determination and I genuinely believe that was what he wanted,” Graham, 65, added.
Graham indicated that his father had suffered a fall 16 days before the death.
He pointed out that his father did a lot of sports and was “amazingly fit for his age.”
“The irony is that had it not been for his fall, we were going to take him to Spain for his 103rd birthday,” Graham added.
According to Daily Mirror, the chances of dying on the same day and time you were born are about 200 million to one.
