BEIRUT – Dozens of families from the Iraqi city of Mosul, including relatives of the Islamic State members, have arrived to the Syrian border city of Al-Bukamal, activist Mohamed al-Khalif told EFE.
Al-Khalif, a member of the Syrian Network for Human Rights in the province of Deir al-Zour, explained to EFE through the internet that dozens of families, mostly civilians with no connections with the Islamic State, have arrived on Tuesday morning to Al-Bukamal.
He added that the displaced moved first from Mosul to the city of Al-Qaim, and then continued to Al-Bukamal, from where they took different paths towards other destinations, such as the Syrian city of Al-Mayadin.
Two days ago, the Iraqi army and its allies began an offensive against Mosul, the IS stronghold in Iraq, to regain control over the city.
