PARIS - The Portuguese boy, who became famous after he comforted a French fan following the "Bleus" 1-0 defeat at the Euro 2016 final last Sunday in Paris, said on Tuesday that he told the French fan that it was just a game.
"It is just a game, but I know how you feel," said 10-year-old Mathis; the kind words of consolation was picked up by a media outlet.
Mathis told French channel BMF TV that he approached the fan because he pitied the state he was in. "I do not like to see people cry, even if I do not know them," he added.
The photos of the Portuguese boy and the French fan went viral after the match that ended with Portugal's victory.
