VATICAN CITY – Bolivian President Evo Morales was received on Friday by Pope Francis, who he gave three books on the benefits of coca, a plant from which cocaine is extracted, and recommended taking it because, he said, it will help him sustain life.
Morales began his meeting with Francis Friday morning and chatted for almost 30 minutes with the Holy Father at the Library of the Vatican Apostolic Palace.
“I am taking and it does me good. I recommend it so you can endure life,” Morales told the Pope, while delivering the books on the Andean crop.
