BUENOS AIRES – Five people were killed and more than 30 others injured Monday when a bus traveling from Asuncion to Buenos Aires flipped over on a highway in eastern Argentina, authorities told EFE.
The crash took place just after 6 a.m. amid heavy rain on Route 14 in Entre Rios, bordering Uruguay.
The first people to respond were members of the fire rescue service in the Uruguayan town of Concepcion.
Carlos Nosalevich, the fire chief in Concepcion, said the driver of the bus lost control of the vehicle while transiting a large traffic circle just ahead of a highway toll plaza.
Four people were pronounced dead at the accident scene and a fifth died in the ambulance en route to a hospital in Uruguay, where the injured survivors, some of them in serious condition, were taken for treatment.
