ISTANBUL Ė A Turkish court ordered preventive detention for a 17-year-old young man for insulting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his Facebook account, Dogan news agency reported on Monday.
After the Turkish authorities checked the accountís content, the teenager was arrested by the police and taken to court, which issued its decision.
The Turkish criminal code stipulates sentences of between one and four years in prison for insulting the president.
Last year, Erdoganís lawyers filed several lawsuits against crimes of the same sort.
Detainees in these cases include two children (12 and 13 years old), who removed a banner with the presidentís picture on it while they were searching for recyclable paper.
