 MOSUL, Iraq – At least 25 Islamic State militants were killed in airstrikes launched by the U.S.-led international coalition in areas located south of the northern Iraqi city of Mosul. Mohammed al-Bayati, head of the security committee in the province of Nineveh told EFE on Tuesday that 14 jihadists were killed and 22 others were wounded in bombings targeting two IS centers in the villages of Al-Hud and Al-Shair, about 50 kilometers (31 miles) south of Mosul. In addition, four IS militants were killed in an attack by the coalition targeting their vehicle when they were traveling in the village of Al-Sultan Abdullah in the Al-Qayara district. Meanwhile, seven other jihadists were killed in another airstrike against IS headquarters in the town of Al-Khalidiya, located in Makhmur district, south of Mosul. Mosul is the main stronghold of IS in northern Iraq and has been controlled by the terrorist group since June 2014, when it proclaimed a caliphate in the territories under its control in this Arab country and neighboring Syria. |
