MONTEVIDEO – Uruguay received 2.2 million tourists during the first 10 months of the year, a 7 percent increase over the same period in 2014, Tourism Ministry Liliam Kechichian said.
Argentina and Brazil accounted for most of the visitors, she said in a statement.
“This year there is a clear trend of recovery in tourism from Argentina,” the minister said. “In the January-October period we had almost 180,000 more than last year.”
Kechichian described as “key” her ministry’s efforts to advertise benefits such as tourists’ entitlement to reimbursement for value added tax.
The minister met Wednesday with national and provincial tourism officials.
She shared with them the tourism promotion campaign the ministry plans to launch in next few days on cable television across several countries in the region.
