Capello Believes Terry Should Return to Play for England

LONDON – Former England national team coach Fabio Capello said on Thursday that Chelsea captain and defender John Terry should return to play for England because he is “one of the best.”

“It’s better to have a player like John Terry than not. He is one of the best,” the 68-year-old Italian tactician, who managed England from December 2007 to February 2012, told the BBC.

Terry led the Three Lions on 78 occasions, but withdrew from the English squad in September 2012, claiming that his position was “untenable.”

Since then, 34-year-old Terry has been one of the major playmakers under Jose Mourinho’s watch, as Chelsea has already won the Capital One Cup this season, and is close to achieving the title of the Premier League.

“England haven’t got a lot of defenders, but they sometimes have problems. But I don’t think he has the chances to play with the national team anymore,” Capello said.
