BARCELONA – FC Barcelona defensive midfielder Sergio Busquets agreed to extend his contract for another year, until 2019, with the option to then renew for a further season, the Spanish club announced on Thursday.
Busquets’ current contract was set to expire in 2018.
The new contract will be signed on Friday at lunchtime at the Camp Nou’s offices, according to the club’s official website.
The Catalan midfielder made his debut with the first team in September 2008 in a home La Liga game against Racing Santander.
He has since played 312 more games for the Blaugrana, winning a total of 16 titles.
He is also currently the squad’s fourth captain.
