SANTIAGO – At least three people died and about 20 were injured when a Bolivian bus flipped over in Chile’s northern Tarapaca region.
The regional director of the Onemi emergency management office, Alejo Palma, told Chilean media that the accident occurred on the highway linking the towns of Huara and Colchane and that the bus was en route from Bolivia to the city of Iquique at the time of the crash.
The bus belongs to a Bolivian transport company, but none of the fatalities has been identified as yet.
Several of the injured are in serious condition and were transported via Chilean air force helicopters to a hospital in Iquique.
Chilean police are working the scene of the crash, and according to preliminary reports the bus flipped over on a highway curve.
