Ancelotti Prepares for Villarreal; Bale, Carvajal and Varane Absent

MADRID – Real Madrid’s Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti on Tuesday started his preparations for the upcoming La Liga match against Villarreal, scheduled for Sunday, in what will be the Spanish soccer league’s 25th round.

Los Blancos’ Tuesday training session witnessed the absence of Bale, Carvajal and Varane, all three of whom underwent individual trainings.

On the other hand, Sergio Ramos, Sami Khedira and James Rodriguez were still recovering from their respective injuries.

Defender Derik Osede and midfielder Alvaro Medran, both Real Madrid Castilla players, also took part in Tuesday’s training session along with the rest of the first team, including Croatian midfielder Luka Modric, who will soon be returning to the pitch after a nearly four-month absence due to injury.

Goalkeepers Iker Casillas, Keylor Navas and Fernando Pacheco underwent a separate specific training for goalies.

Real Madrid has plenty of time to prepare for its next La Liga game, unlike Villarreal, who will face off against Salzburg on Thursday in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League’s round of 32, while Real’s main rivals, FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, will be playing their difficult Champions League matches on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.

Real Madrid presently holds the top position in La Liga’s standings with 60 points, four points ahead of runner-up Barcelona and seven points ahead of Los Rojiblancos, who are currently in third place.
