PARIS – At least five unmanned drone aircraft flew early Tuesday over several strategic points in Paris, according to authorities who said they were investigating the flights, news reports said.
The flights were witnessed between midnight and 6 a.m. local time near the U.S. embassy next to the Place de la Concorde, the Place de la Bastille, Les Invalides near the Eiffel Tower and along the Seine River, BFM TV reported.
The first of the drones was spotted after midnight near the U.S. embassy, which is located a few hundred meters (yards) from the Elysee Palace presidential residence, said France Info.
French authorities have opened an investigation and news reports said that it was possible that just one drone was involved, flying over the strategic points at different times.
In recent months, drones have been spotted around France flying near nuclear power stations or military installations, which is prohibited.
