MONTEVIDEO – Uruguayan teenager Yamila Rodriguez, whose dismembered body was found four days ago, had been raped and killed by a 36-year-old man who for years had been in a relationship with the victim’s sister, police officials said.
The judge in the case ordered imprisonment during the trial of Luis Alejandro Villar Trias, accused of “very particularly aggravated homicide,” police headquarters in Maldonado province said in a communique.
The girl’s head was found last Monday near Punta del Este, Uruguay’s leading seaside resort some 140 kilometers (87 miles) from Montevideo, while her torso without its left arm was discovered several hours later hidden in a garbage container about 1 kilometer (about 1/2 mile) away.
The attacker confessed that on Nov. 2 he raped Yamila in a room near the humble dwelling he shared with the victim’s sister in a run-down settlement.
He then hit her on the head with a hammer and killed her by cutting her throat with a knife.
Later the man, who has a criminal record for being an accessory to robbery in 1996 and who worked as a security guard, wrapped the body in a sheet and dropped it in the trash where it was found.
However, he has denied dismembering the body, police added in the communique.
The family of the victim reported her disappearance 10 days ago, and some relatives camped out in front of a police station near her home demanding that authorities speed up the investigation.
