Three Dead in Iraqi Army Helicopter Crash North of Baghdad

BAGHDAD A helicopter belonging to the Iraqi Army crashed Wednesday near the oil city of Beiji, 200 miles north of Baghdad, due to a technical problem, a security source in Saladin province told Efe.

According to the source, the accident killed the three crew members.

The Iraqi Army is engaged in a broad offensive against the jihadist Islamic State (IS) organization which strengthened its presence in the country when it occupied the city of Mosul, the second largest city in the country, in June.

Since then, the IS has continued to expand the territory under its control both in northern Iraq, and in the eastern and northern Syria, despite the intervention of the U.S.-led international coalition that began strikes against IS positions in August.
