A cocktail party at the residence of the Canadian Ambassador to Venezuela Renata E. Wielgosz on Thursday night kicked off the second annual “Discover Canada” event which will run until today.
The two-day exploration of business, tourism and educational opportunities in the hemisphere’s northernmost country is organized by Air Canada, the Canadian Embassy and the Venezuelan-Canadian Chamber of Commerce. Spokesperson for the Embassy, Michael Harvey said the goal of the event is to show Venezuelans that Canada “offers great opportunities for tourism, study and business.” He added that he expects the events to be as well attended as last year, with at least 3,000 persons. Workshops will be held at the Marriott Hotel beginning at 9 in the morning. Friday’s program focused on business and investment opportunities while today’s is dedicated to tourism and studying. Air Canada organized Discover Canada last year in order to raise interest in its direct service from Caracas to Toronto. Mayra Morales, Air Canada´s local manager says the company has seen slow, but permanent growth on that route and continues upwards since its inception. This summer, Air Canada will offer a daily flight between Caracas and Toronto. “Every year we plan to make the market grow enough to maintain the daily flight,” said Morales. She added that she hopes to be able to make the daily Air Canada flight a year-round service by 2007. This year The Daily Journal is proudly sponsoring the event with the presence of a stand, subscription services, and with the best editions to deliver to the visitors. We wish our Canadian friends good luck in their new endeavors.
