OVIEDO, Spain – Two people were dead and three others missing Thursday after a Portuguese-flagged fishing vessel capsized 20 miles off the coast of northern Spain.
Seven of the 12 people aboard the trawler Mar Nosso were rescued by the crew of another fishing boat, a spokesman for Spanish Maritime Rescue told Efe.
The 32-meter (105-ft.) vessel is based in the Spanish port of Marin and has a crew of five Spaniards and seven Portuguese nationals, Efe learned from sources in the area’s fishing industry.
Authorities have offered no information on the nationalities of the dead and missing crew members.
A fishing boat that was a mile away when the Mar Nosso foundered came to the trawler’s aid and informed Maritime Rescue of the emergency.
The bodies of the dead were recovered later by another craft.
Five vessels and a helicopter continued to search for the three missing crew members.
