Headless Bodies of 2 Women Found on Guatemala City’s Outskirts

GUATEMALA CITY – Residents found the headless bodies of two young women Wednesday in a neighborhood on the western outskirts of Guatemala City, emergency services officials said.

The victims, one approximately 20 and the other 17, have not been identified, a fire department spokesman told reporters.

The bodies were found in garbage bags dumped on a soccer field, the fire department spokesman said.

“The bodies were discovered by residents walking across the soccer field in San Jose La Comunidad,” a district in the Guatemala City suburb of Mixco, the fire department spokesman said.

The two bodies showed “signs of severe torture” and the victims appear to have been decapitated with a rope, emergency services officials said.

More than 625 women, according to government figures, have been murdered this year in Guatemala, with officials’ efforts to stop the violence against women not bearing fruit.
