TEGUCIGALPA – Soccer club executive Melvin Sanders and a bodyguard were shot to death Tuesday at his residence in northern Honduras, police said.
A police spokesman told reporters that Sanders’ body was found inside the home in the municipality of Choloma, along with that of his bodyguard, identified only as Kevin.
Several armed men early on Tuesday morning entered Sanders’ home in the Lomas del Choloma neighborhood, the spokesman said, citing the testimony of witnesses.
So far, security forces investigating the double-murder have not determined a motive.
Sanders was the director of the Atletico Choloma club, which was recently relegated to the second division.
Honduras suffered 85.5 homicides for every 100,000 residents in 2012, compared with a global median rate of 8.8 murders per 100,000, the Violence Observatory at the National Autonomous University said in a study released in February.
